If you're creating a corporate video production or involved in the creative process for this type of project my article has a few excellent tips on how to get the most out of this exciting way of communicating to your customers.
Creating a corporate video can be a great way to convey a message to your audience (customers - existing and new), about your brand, products, services and who you are.
The nature of corporate video production has changed considerably since the advent of these types of videos in the early days and the Internet has had by far and away the largest impact on this process, and the results from this activity.
There are many more channels in which to reach your audience with Youtube being just one channel of communication and with more and more people using the likes of Youtube to search for what they want, you can't ignore it.
So here are a few tips to help you along the way.
1. Talk first; write last! - You'll be amazed at the results of talking to your employees. You need to work out what the video is about firstly, then jot down a load of questions you can ask your employees. People love to talk and you could be surprised at what you uncover with this approach. Once you've talked to your employees you can start writing a script. Keep it simple and make sure your interviews are transcribed onto paper and choose your favourite answers.
2. Always capture more video than you need - During on-camera videos, instead of asking a small selection of questions, ask lots and obviously keep the camera rolling. It can be good to go off at tangents as well, as you may capture something that could be used for viral video campaigns, a marketing slogan or an audio podcast.
3. Keep it short - We have short attention spans. It's a fact, and especially when it comes to visuals. Our brains have a perfectly attuned filtering system that kicks in after a minute or so. Based on that corporate video production usually lasts between 2-3 minutes. All projects are different though, so if it's significantly longer than this, you should think about splitting up the video into smaller manageable chunks.
4. Talk to your viewer/audience - Your corporate video production is not about you it is about your viewer. Each question and frame of the video should have this in mind and be relative to your target audience.
5. Show some passion - Videos are a fantastic way to convey emotions. We can see it, hear it, share it, and feel it sometimes. Without passion you will lose your viewer and your video is lost in amongst the millions of other unmemorable videos.
These are just a few tips and the list could go on for a lot longer, so please do watch out for some more articles covering the creative and exciting world of video production.
